What the Agency Handles So You Can Do the Work

Interpreting agencies are often misunderstood as organizations that simply fill requests. In reality, placement is only one part of a much larger system designed to support ASL interpreters and CART providers, protect professional standards, and ensure meaningful access.
At The SOS Agency, our role is to manage the coordination, advocacy, and infrastructure behind each assignment—so you can focus on doing the work you’re trained to do.

Receiving and Assessing Requests
We receive each request and review it carefully to understand the setting, purpose, and access needs. When information is missing or unclear, we follow up to ensure the request is properly scoped from the start.
Educating the Customer
We work with customers to explain appropriate access solutions, including the difference between ASL interpreting and CART, when team interpreting or Deaf Interpreters (CDIs) may be necessary, and what realistic expectations look like for the assignment.
Evaluating Scope and Complexity
Each request is evaluated for length, pace, content, environment, and ethical considerations. This step helps prevent under-scoped assignments and supports interpreter sustainability.
Matching Providers Intentionally
Assignments are matched based on experience, credentials, skill alignment, and overall fit—not just availability. Our goal is to create conditions where interpreters and CART providers can do their best work.
Managing Logistics and Communication
We coordinate confirmations, schedules, start and end times, travel and mileage approvals, and communication between all parties so assignments run smoothly.
Ensuring Timely Payment
We process vendor payment according to our payroll schedule, regardless of whether the customer has paid.
Debriefing and Ongoing Support
After assignments, we remain available for debriefing, feedback, and follow-up. We take concerns seriously and use that information to improve processes and advocacy moving forward.

Closing
By managing the systems behind each assignment, we create a structure that supports interpreters before, during, and after the work. Our role is to stand alongside you—so you can focus on delivering the access that matters.
